Trading Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving Seen As Optimal Strategy For Mavericks

In the wake of firing Nico Harrison, the Dallas Mavericks are reevaluating their team. They haven’t indicated that they want to trade Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving. However, sources believe that moving Davis and/or Irving is the optimal strategy for Dallas.

Trading Davis or Irving would allow the Mavs to bottom out this season, which would increase the chances of landing a high pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. This draft class is loaded with high-end talent that Dallas could pair with Cooper Flagg long-term. This is also the only selection that the Mavericks control outright until 2031. Trading Davis or Irving would also allow Dallas to add some needed draft capital moving forward.

Ages and injury histories are challenges in getting back fair value for players of Davis and Irving’s calibers. Davis is also extension-eligible next season. Given that he’ll be looking for a big deal to take him into his late-30’s.
