Source: Broner to make return to ring on Feb. 13

Former four-division title-holder Adrien Broner will make his return to the ring on Feb. 13, a source confirmed to ESPN on Friday, marking the first time in over two years he will fight.

Broner hasn’t appeared in the ring since Jan. 19, 2019, when he lost a unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao for the WBA welterweight title. It was his third-straight draw or defeat, dating back to Feb. 18, 2017, when he beat Adrian Granados by split decision at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati.

Since then, he lost to Mikey Garcia in 2017 by unanimous decision and had a majority draw with Jessie Vargas in 2018.

The Athletic, which first reported Broner’s return, also reported that he will fight Pedro Campa (31-1-1, 21 KO).

Broner (33-4-1, 1 NC, 24 KO), has dealt with multiple legal issues the past few years, including pleading guilty in April 2019 to misdemeanor assault and unlawful restraint of a woman in a Cleveland nightclub in June 2018.

In December 2019, he was ordered to pay $835,000 to the woman he assaulted. In November of last year, he was placed in contempt of court for failure to pay those damages and sentenced to jail. He was later released and the next hearing in the case is Feb. 3.
