Miami Heat guard Norman Powell’s first year with the team is running concurrent with the final year of his contract. However, Powell would like to stay in Miami long-term. The veteran shooting guard was named an All-Star for the first time in his initial season with the Heat.

“This is definitely a place that I want to be,” Powell said about staying with the Heat beyond this season. “It’s been nothing but great. Coming here getting adjusted, the organization has been amazing. I love where I’m at. I love the setup. I love the mentality. I love the approach. It has been, honestly, a super easy transition because I feel like everybody in the organization has the same mentality I have of pushing yourself to achieve the best and be the best version of yourself. It’s been fun.”

Powell is wrapping up the five-year, $90 million extension he originally signed with the Portland Trail Blazers. Before playing a game on that deal, the Blazers traded him to the LA Clippers. After four years with the Clippers, they sent Powell to the Heat this offseason. The 11th-year veteran guard spent the first five-plus years of his career with the Toronto Raptors.
