Man United in hunt for Swansea winger Daniel James – sources

Ross Dyer and Steve Nicol share their thoughts on the latest transfer rumours, including who’s in and who’s out at Manchester United.

Manchester United are among a number of clubs in a race to sign Swansea City winger Daniel James, sources have told ESPN FC.

United, Everton, Newcastle and Leeds are all reported to be interested in the 21-year-old winger.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refused to comment on speculation about a move for James at a news conference on Friday, but sources have told ESPN FC that the Wales international is one of the players on his list of summer targets.

Any deal would depend on United matching Swansea’s valuation, which is around £15 million.

James scored two goals in 20 games in the Championship this season and has been capped twice by Wales, who are managed by Solskjaer’s former United teammate Ryan Giggs.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Solskjaer is looking to strengthen every area of his squad over the summer, with a forward, defender and at least one midfielder his priorities.

A number of senior players could leave, with doubts over the futures of Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

Ander Herrera and club captain Antonio Valencia are set to depart on free transfers after Sunday’s final game of the season against relegated Cardiff at Old Trafford.
