MATCH POINTS

Angelique Kerber leads Caroline Garcia by 5-2 in their head-to-head rivalry. Kerber has won their last two meetings, both coming last year, but this is their first matchup on grass. Kerber is the defending Wimbledon champion, while Garcia claimed the Nottingham title last week.

Anastasija Sevastova is an outstanding 15-2 at the Mallorca Open. The Latvian won the title in 2017 (defeating Julia Goerges in the final) and reached the final in her other two appearances, in 2016 (lost to Caroline Garcia) and 2018 (lost to Tatjana Maria).

This will be Sevastova’s first meeting with Wang Yafan. Wang, the only unseeded player to reach the quarterfinals this week, is a first-time WTA singles champion in 2019, defeating Sofia Kenin in the Acapulco final.

Belinda Bencic and Amanda Anisimova will square off for the first time. Anisimova, playing her first WTA grass-court event, reached the quarterfinals by defeating Alizé Cornet in the second round on Thursday. Bencic advanced to the final eight when Shelby Rogers retired from the third set of their match with a shoulder injury.

Sofia Kenin and Elise Mertens will contest their first meeting. Kenin, who reached the semifinals in Mallorca as a qualifier last year, made it back to the quarterfinals after Ons Jabeur retired during their second-round clash.
