Kings, Warriors Renew Jonathan Kuminga Sign-And-Trade Talks

The Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings renewed talks on a Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade this week, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic. The sides previously hadn’t spoken on a Kuminga deal for more than a month.

The Kings have offered Malik Monk and a lottery protected 2030 first round pick to the Warriors for Kuminga, who would sign a three-year, $63 million contract. The Kings haven’t given up on the concept ahead of Kuminga’s October 1st qualifying offer deadline.

The Warriors would like to reroute Malik Monk elsewhere as has a player option for the 2027-28 season worth $21.5 million and therefore doesn’t fit their prioritization of future flexibility. The Warriors also have doubts concerning his fit on the roster.

The Warriors are wouldn’t want to sacrifice either Buddy Hield or Moses Moody as part of a deal and that messaging has increased of late.

If a deal were to materialize, the Kings would likely have to change their position on the pick protections. If the pick were to not convey in 2030, it would then become the least favorable of the 2031 first rounders between the Kings and San Antonio Spurs.

Golden State recently improved their offer to Kuminga up to $48 million in guaranteed money on a three-year deal with a team option in year 3.

Kuminga’s ultimate decision will come down to either guaranteed money or long-term freedom.
