Grizzlies Open To Trading Ja Morant

The Memphis Grizzlies are open to trading Ja Morant for the first time as they consider a full reset of their roster. Morant has received interest from multiple teams and the Grizzlies are expected to prioritize receiving a package built around future draft picks and young players.

Morant became extension eligible this past offseason, but no discussions were held as the Grizzlies wanted to take a wait and see approach. The situation mirrors the one the Atlanta Hawks went through with Trae Young prior to his trade to the Washington Wizards. Morant is eligible to sign an extension worth up to $178 million over three seasons.

Memphis is also open to keeping Morant, but they have signaled a change in their position on Morant’s availability ahead of the February 5th trade deadline.

The Grizzlies are high on their young core of Cedric Coward, Zach Edey, Jaylen Wells and Cam Spencer that they believe will complement Jaren Jackson Jr.

Memphis initially began to reset their roster in June when they traded away Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for four unprotected picks and a swap.
