Gameday Guide: 2019-20 Pelicans Home Opener vs. Dallas Mavericks

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans announced that the 2019-20 home opener against the Dallas Mavericks in the Smoothie King Center will feature a variety of notable musicians and giveaways.

Game Day Giveaway: Every fan in attendance will receive a blue “Won’t Bow Down” Pelicans t-shirt courtesy of Smoothie King.

National Anthem: Known as the “Soul Queen of New Orleans,” Irma Thomas is a Grammy-winning artist whose career has spanned over 50 years. Originally singing as a teenager in her Baptist church choir, she released her first single in 1960 with a string of successful releases to follow. In 2007, she won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues album for “After the Rain.” In addition to touring nationally, she also appears annually at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. The New Orleans native has performed the national anthem at several New Orleans Saints games, including the contest for the reopening of the Superdome on Sept. 25, 2006, alongside New Orleans’ lost legend, Allen Touissant.

Entertainment Highlights: Halftime will feature a performance by New Orleans native and rapper, record producer and DJ, Mannie Fresh. Best known for his work with Cash Money Records from 1993 to 2005 and one-half of the hip-hop duo the Big Tymers. New Orleans rapper, 5th Ward Weebie will also perform at halftime with Mannie Fresh.

TV Broadcast Information: The Pelicans’ match-up with the Mavericks will air live on FOX Sports New Orleans and ESPN with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. Joel Meyers (play-by-play), Antonio Daniels (color analyst) and Jen Hale (sideline) will have the call. In addition, FOX Sports New Orleans is airing a live 90-minute pregame show outside of the Smoothie King Center with multiple guest appearances starting at 5:30 p.m. CST.

Radio Broadcast Information: Friday’s game will air on the team’s flagship station ESPN 100.3 with Todd Graffagnini (play-by-play) and John DeShazier (color analyst). In addition to full game coverage, Studio Host Daniel Sallerson will host a pre-game and post-game show. The pre-game show will be highlighted by pre-game sound and updates and feature stories, while the post-game show will feature locker room reaction, Head Coach Alvin Gentry’s media availability and live opportunities for fans to call in and talk Pelicans basketball.
