Dubs Extend Winning Streak With Win Over Rockets

The Dubs celebrated Christmas Day at Chase Center with a 116-104 victory over the Houston Rockets fueled by doubles-doubles from Damion Lee and Draymond Green. Lee notched a new career-high of 15 rebounds to go with 22 points. Green added 20 points and 11 rebounds, while D’Angelo Russell finished with 20 points of his own.

Though the combined scoring effort of the Dubs lifted the squad over the Rockets, it was the Warriors’ defense that ultimately helped them capture the victory.

The Dubs held Houston, the second highest scoring team in the NBA, to just seven points over the final eight minutes of the game. Additionally, after allowing James Harden to get 16 points in the second quarter on four made threes, the squad held Harden to just five points in the final 24 minutes.

Harden’s big second quarter put the Warriors as far down as 13 points with 6:05 left in the frame. However, the Dubs then worked their way into the team foul bonus for the quarter with 4:02 remaining, which Lee used to his advantage: he made his way to the free throw line ten times and made all of his shots from the charity stripe in the quarter to cap-off a 17-point first half.

Despite the double-digit deficit, an additional 14 points from Russell in the first half kept the Warriors within striking distance and down 68-64 headed into halftime.

Green then joined the Dubs’ party after as he came out of the break and posted 16 points and six rebounds through the third and fourth quarters, including a late trey that brought the Christmas cheer to Chase Center.

The win extended the Warriors’ streak to three games as they remain undefeated on their current homestand. The Dubs are back at Chase Center for the next one when the Phoenix Suns come to Warriors Ground on Friday (7:30 p.m., NBCSBA and NBA TV).
