NOP: On Willie Green, Zion, and the danger of the “Two Timelines” strategy
Jacob Sutton, JSutt Hoops

We’ve seen this song-and-dance before. A team, desperate to have both a present and a future, begins to build its roster around multiple alternate timelines. You have a core star, some aging veterans, and rookies who are thrown into the fire right away. You trade away first-rounders that haven’t already been used in an effort to bolster the team’s chances of competing. And in the end, you end up picking one timeline anyway, because otherwise, you run the risk of destroying both.

(t)he Pelicans are running a sort of Two Timelines strategy, too. It’s slightly different and, somehow, more destructive for the franchise’s future, and it’s very clear what needs to happen now
