Bama’s Smith breaks SEC receiving yards record

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith set the SEC career receiving yards record with his first catch against Ohio State in the national championship game Monday night.

The Heisman Trophy winner had one reception for 15 yards on the opening drive, moving him past Jordan Matthews, who set the record of 3,759 yards at Vanderbilt from 2010-13.

Smith set the mark on his 224th career reception.
