Jonathan Kuminga had his first practice of the season on Thursday after ending his 92-day contract standoff with the Golden State Warriors by signing a two-year, $46.8 million deal.
Kuminga accepted the extra money instead of signing the $8.9 million qualifying offer, but sources tell ESPN he felt forced into the team option structure of Year 2. The Warriors also required Kuminga to waive his inherent no-trade clause.
There is a general feeling that the Warriors will explore Kuminga’s trade market in January once he becomes eligible to be moved.
Kuminga was asked if he wants to be with the Warriors over the long-term.
“I’m here now,” Kuminga said. “That’s everybody’s goal, to be somewhere for longer. You never know your future. So far that’s my goal. That’s what I want to accomplish. Being here for longer.”
Kuminga was also asked if he believes the Warriors want him on their team long-term.
“I would say so,” Kuminga said. “Based on me being back here. At the end of the day, let’s see where this takes us. But my focus is this year pushing and actually helping us win. You never know what’s going to happen, but I’m happy, glad to be back.”
