Ja Morant intends to negotiate his next NBA contract without an agent.
Morant was previously represented by Jim Hill over his first five seasons in the NBA and then Mike Miller for approximately one year. Morant signed a five-year, $197 million extension with the Memphis Grizzlies in July 2022 and became eligible for a two-year extension this offseason. Morant parted ways with Miller in June.
Morant averaged 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 30.4 minutes over 50 games this past season. Morant was most recently an All-Star in 2023.
Joel Embiid and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are among current players who don’t currently have an agent. Unlike those two players, Morant may not necessarily be offered a max contract extension. The Grizzlies and Morant are not believed to have engaged in extension talks.
