Nikola Jokic has been diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee and will miss at least four weeks when he will be reevaluated. Jokic suffered the injury in the Denver Nuggets’ 147-123 loss at the Miami Heat, leaving the game shortly before halftime.
Jokic collapsed to the court and grabbed his knee after teammate Spencer Jones stepped on his left foot, which caused Jokic’s knee to buckle. Jokic walked with a limp on his own power to the Denver locker room.
“Immediately, he knew something was wrong,” David Adelman said after the game. “Anybody who gets hurt in this game, it’s kind of gut-wrenching, especially somebody as special as he is.”
Jokic has been one of the NBA’s most durable superstars as he’s appeared in now fewer than 69 games in any single season. Jokic has finished first or second in MVP voting for the past five seasons. Jokic is averaging 29.6 points, 12.2 rebounds and 11.0 assists in 34.6 minutes while leading the NBA in PER.
