As part of the NBA Cares Season of Giving league-wide campaign, the Golden State Warriors players, coaches and front office staff will host events throughout the month to brighten the lives of Bay Area families and youth this holiday season, it was announced today. Members of the Warriors organization will engage with disadvantaged families, youth with life-threatening medical conditions and local community groups to spread holiday cheer.
Throughout this year’s Season of Giving campaign, the Warriors will spend over 3,500 hours at over 20 community events to improve the Bay Area community.
Through December 23, the Warriors will host a toy drive that will benefit the San Francisco Fire Department Toy Program. Fans are invited to bring new toys to all events at Chase Center through December 23. The San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program is the city’s largest and nation’s oldest program of its kind, beginning operation in 1949, that provides toys to families and children in a time of loss.
Below is a look at some of the upcoming Warriors’ schedule of Season of Giving events:
MONDAY, DECEMBER 9:
San Francisco Symphony Surprise & Delight: The Warriors will surprise 60 students from Tenderloin Community School, during a school assembly, with tickets to attend the San Francisco Symphony’s Deck the Halls event.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10:
Basketball Decoded, presented by Google Cloud: The Warriors, in partnership with Google Cloud, will host 100 Bay Area students to learn about the use of technology in sports. Warriors forward Marquese Chriss, in addition to The Hidden Genius Project and TEAM, Inc., will guide students through hands-on activities around coding, data and analytics, and virtual reality technology. In the spirit of the holidays and the team’s Season of Giving platform, the students will be gifted with various technology-themed presents to capitalize on their educational experience.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12:
Warriors Team Member Helping Hands Volunteer Day: Over 400 Warriors and Chase Center employees will volunteer from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at four different Bay Area sites to participate in various community site improvement projects, such as painting, building and cleaning, as well as engage with local residents and youth to spread the holiday cheer. Former Warriors player Zaza Pachulia, and Warriors Community Ambassador Adonal Foyle will visit multiple sites throughout the day to meet with community individuals at the sites
MONDAY, DECEMBER 16
Lucky California Shop N’ Learn: Warriors players Alec Burks, Omari Spellman, assistant coaches Mike Brown and Bruce Fraser, and Warriors community ambassador Adonal Foyle will shop with five families from the Bay Area to learn about nutrition on a budget and will purchase ingredients to make a healthy Holiday meal. Participants will leave with Lucky California gift cards for future shopping trips.
Thompson Family Foundation Toy Giveaway: Warriors guard Klay Thompson and members of the Thompson Family Foundation will hand out over 200 toys to residents of Oakland at Burckhalter Elementary School.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19
Damion Lee Shoe Giveaway: Warriors guard Damion Lee, in partnership with the L.E.E. Way Foundation and Shoe Palace, will surprise Bay Area families with new shoes and clothes for the holidays. The event, which will begin at 2:30 p.m., will take place at Shoe Palace (4900 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA, 94609).
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 25
Christmas Day Gift Surprise: As the Warriors have done in years’ past, the team will surprise local Bay Area youth from Oakland and San Francisco with a gift in an on-court presentation, pregame, as the team prepares to tip-off its Christmas Day game vs. the Houston Rockets.
Additional events with Warriors guards Stephen Curry and D’Angelo Russell, and forwards Draymond Green, Kevon Looney and Glenn Robinson III will be announced at a later date, along with additional details and timing for the above events.
To tip off the holiday season, Warriors forward Glenn Robinson III hosted local families from the Bayview Hunters-Point neighborhood of San Francisco on Tuesday, November 26, to distribute over 200 turkeys for holiday meals. Additionally, the Warriors hosted a Thanksgiving meal, in partnership with the City of Oakland, on November 26, with Warriors community ambassador Adonal Foyle, and Warriors front office employees.
