UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira odds, predictions: MMA insider gives surprising picks

Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira have more than 33 years of professional mixed martial arts experience between them. So it’s unlikely either fighter will be surprised by anything that transpires in the Octagon when they meet on Wednesday in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira. The 11-bout card is set for Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville as the UFC continues its surge of events following a hiatus prompted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The No. 3-ranked Smith is just 31 but has been a professional fighter since age 18. The 40-year-old Teixeira, ranked No. 8, made his MMA debut in June 2002. Smith is a -175 favorite (risk $175 to win $100), while Teixeira is a +140 underdog in the latest Smith vs. Teixeira odds at William Hill. In the co-main event, Ovince Saint Preux (-135) takes on Ben Rothwell (+115) in a heavyweight bout. Before locking in any UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Teixeira picks, be sure to see the latest UFC predictions from SportsLine MMA expert Kyle Marley.

Marley won the first-ever “ToutMaster” UFC betting contest sponsored by MMAOddsBreaker and also appears regularly on multiple MMA betting and DFS shows. Over the past year, $100 bettors who have followed Marley’s picks are up nearly $19,000.

At UFC 248 in March, Marley told SportsLine members to expect middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (-275) to retain his title against Yoel Romero (+235) by unanimous decision. He reasoned that Adesanya would use his speed and agility to outpoint Romero. Marley was proven correct, as the titleholder kept the fight at range with leg kicks while dodging Romero’s explosive power. Anyone who has consistently followed Marley is way up.

Now, with UFC Fight Night: Teixeira vs. Smith fast approaching, Marley has carefully studied every matchup on the card, identified the best value in the UFC odds and released his MMA picks for every fight. He’s only sharing those selections right here

Smith vs. Teixeira expert preview

Smith, (33-14) 31, is known as a warrior in the Octagon who doesn’t appear to possess world-class skills but finds a way to win thanks to his resilience and will. He has been an underdog in several of his victories against top opponents.

He came out on the short end of a lopsided decision against Jones in their March 2019 title fight. But just three months later, he secured a submission over perennial contender Alexander Gustafsson as a +250 underdog. Smith has won four of his last five UFC bouts and received performance bonuses in four of his past six fights.

Teixeira, 40, is a submission specialist who has 10 finishes among his 12 UFC victories. He lost a title shot against Jones by decision in April 2014 but has seen a career resurgence over the past year.

The Brazilian went 3-0 in 2019, including two submission finishes. He is coming off a split-decision victory against Nikita Krylov in September. Marley is only giving out his Teixeira vs. Smith picks and MMA predictions here.

Top UFC Fight Night predictions for May 13

Marley is backing Hunter Azure (-190) to get the best of Brian Kelleher (+160) in a clash of flyweight prospects.

Axure (8-0), 28, made his UFC debut in September following a successful run in various promotions including the Legacy Fighting Alliance. The Montana native earned a unanimous decision against veteran Brad Katona. He made a name for himself and earned a UFC contract with a victory on “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” in July of last year.

He faces a step up in competition against Kelleher (20-10), who is 4-3 in seven UFC appearances since making his debut in June 2017. The 33-year-old New Yorker snapped a two-fight losing skid with a first-round submission of Ode Osbourne in January.

“Azure is the better fighter and deserves to be the favorite,” Marley told SportsLine. “His striking will earn him a decision win or possibly a technical knockout.”
