UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris odds, predictions: MMA insider makes surprising picks

For all of his accolades in mixed martial arts, a UFC title is one feat that has eluded Alistair Overeem. The celebrated veteran insists he will accomplish that goal before considering retirement. He will take another step forward Saturday when he faces fellow top-10 contender Walt Harris in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris. The UFC Fight Night card will take place at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., with the main card set for 9 p.m. ET.

Overeem saw his two-fight win streak halted in December when he was knocked out in the last five seconds against Jairzinho Rozenstruik in a five-round bout he had dominated to that point. He faces a tough task in the rising Harris, who has seen his last three wins come by stoppage. Harris is a -150 favorite (risk $150 to win $100), while Overeem is a +125 underdog (risk $100 to win $125) in the latest Overeem vs. Harris odds at William Hill. In the co-main event, Claudia Gadelha (-185) faces Angela Hill (+165) in a matchup of bantamweight prospects. Before locking in your selections for Fight Night: Harris vs. Overeem, check out what SportsLine MMA analyst Kyle Marley has to say

At UFC 249 last weekend, Marley told SportsLine members to back champion Henry Cejudo (-240) in his bantamweight title defense against former champ Dominick Cruz (+200). He was proven correct when Cejudo rattled Cruz with a knee to the face and finished him with ground-and-pound for a stoppage in the second round. And on Wednesday, Marley told SportsLine members to back underdog Glover Teixeira (+145) in the main event against Anthony Smith (-165). Teixeira dominated the action and earned a fifth-round stoppage. Anyone who has consistently followed Marley is way up.

Now, with Harris vs. Overeem fast approaching, Marley has carefully studied every matchup on the UFC Jacksonville card, identified the best value in the UFC odds and released his MMA picks for every fight. Those MMA predictions are only available here.

Overeem vs. Harris preview

The No. 8-ranked Overeem (45-18-1) is one of the most accomplished mixed martial artists in heavyweight history. The 39-year-old is a former kickboxing champion who also has held the Strikeforce and DREAM heavyweight crowns.

His resume includes victories over luminaries like Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt, Frank Mir and Junior Dos Santos. But he was turned back in a title shot at UFC 203 in September 2016, suffering a first-round knockout to Stipe Miocic. The Dutch fighter has split his last six UFC bouts, with all of the defeats coming by stoppage.

Harris (13-7-1), ranked No. 9, started his UFC career with a 3-4 mark after losing his debut with the promotion in January 2014. But the 36-year-old Alabama native appears to be a late bloomer, as he has gone 3-0-1 in his last four bouts, with all of the wins coming by early stoppage.

Harris won both of his bouts in 2019, scoring knockouts of Sergey Spivak and Aleksei Oleinik. He received Performance of the Night bonuses for both showings. You can see Marley’s full Harris vs. Overeem prediction and picks here.

Top UFC Fight Night predictions for May 16

We’ll reveal one of Marley’s UFC Fight Night selections here: He is backing Kevin Holland (-115) to prevail against Anthony Hernandez (-105) in a middleweight clash.

Holland (16-5) excelled in numerous promotions before making his UFC debut in 2018 against Thiago Santos, who has since challenged Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title. The 27-year-old Californian has won three of his past four fights, but is looking to bounce back from a submission loss to Brendan Allen in October.

Hernandez (7-1) is a submission artist who has shown promise while going 1-1 in his first two UFC fights. The 26-year-old earned his first win with the promotion with a submission of Jun Yong Park in August.

“Hernandez will likely be striking and wrestling at a higher pace, but I love Holland’s scrambles,” Marley told SportsLine. “I could see him getting multiple reverses and possibly getting a submission of his own.”
