New Zealand dump Blitzboks out of Paris Sevens

Cape Town – The Blitzboks have been dumped out of the Paris Sevens after they were well-beaten 33-7 by New Zealand in their semi-final clash.

New Zealand were first to score when Regan Ware raced away down the right for a converted try in the second minute and a 7-0 lead.

Poor defending by South Africa saw New Zealand double their lead to 14-0 as Ware cruised in down the right-hand touchline for his second try.

And they added their third for a 21-0 half-time lead as Jona Narkei crossed the whitewash under the uprights after a well worked scissor movement.

The Blitzboks needed to score first in the second half and they did with a converted try from Cecil Africa which cut the New Zealand lead to 21-7 with four minutes remaining.

But New Zealand again extended their lead to 28-7 with Andrew Knewstubb crashing through a few defenders to score the fourth converted New Zealand try.

And they had another before full-time as Amanaki Nicole pounced on poor South African handling to score in the right hand corner as New Zealand extended their lead to 33-7.

And that’s the way it stayed till the final whistle with the Blitzboks well and truly beaten.

Earlier, Fiji beat the United States 33-14 in their semi-final clash and in doing so, claimed the World Sevens Series for the 2018/2019 season.

The final between Fiji and New Zealand takes place at 18:33 while the Blitzboks will face the United States in the Bronze Final at 18:08.
