Russia savours Confederations Cup’s success

The final two matches of the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 will take place today, confirming the winners, runners-up and third-placed side in this year’s Tournament of Champions.

One thing is already clear, however: the FIFA Confederations Cup has been a huge success in Russia for both local fans in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan and Sochi and visitors from other cities and abroad.

Delegations from all participating teams have been extremely positive about the reception they have received in Russia. Many foreign football supporters visited Russia for the first time and are already keen to return, particularly for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ next year.

Denis Matsuev, a famous pianist and 2018 FIFA World Cup Ambassador, noted the excellent tournament organisation on display.

“The Confederations Cup was extremely well organised,” said Matsuev. “I want to congratulate the organisers, volunteers and supporters. I was blown away by our fans at the Russia v Portugal game in Moscow. They supported the team and clapped them off the pitch despite the defeat – it was magnificent to see.

“But it’s not even about the strong and energetic support for our team, what pleased me the most was the respect with which Russian fans treated our guests. We showed once again how welcoming our fans are,” he went on to add.

Russian supporters enjoyed the football festival and had the opportunity to see for themselves what a huge and amazing event the 2018 World Cup will be for the country next year with more cities, more teams, more games and more excitement.
