Manchester City’s Rodri studying toward degree during coronavirus shutdown

Julien Laurens says a deal between Manchester City and Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane would make everyone happy.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri says he is using his extra time during the coronavirus pandemic to study for his degree.

The Spain international is splitting his time in lockdown between staying fit ahead of a possible resumption of the Premier League in June and cramming for exams.

“I have been training and keeping fit,” said Rodri.

“I also used the time to do homework for my university degree, as there are exams in a few days time.

“I can’t say now what I’m going to do in the future, but I’m studying a degree in Management and Business Administration because it is a challenge for me, to start a degree and finish it.

“I’m sure it’s going to be helpful in the future one way or another. You never know. When I finish my career as a player I’d like to stay in contact with the sports world, but if it doesn’t happen, that’s fine too.”

Football in Germany is set to restart this month while clubs in Spain have been allowed to return to their training bases for medical tests. City’s players are still training at home but there is hope the season may be able to resume in mid-June.

“It’s very difficult times for everyone, not only for football fans or sports fans,” said Rodri.

“We all have families and friends who are going through difficult times, lots of people are losing their loved ones, so the most important thing now is to sort out the situation with the coronavirus.

“Once this situation is over, hopefully, we can all go back to our jobs and routines, but the priority now is to tackle the virus and sort out the situation first.

“I’d say to Man City fans and football fans, that we are very excited to play football again, we are ready to enjoy football again and we are just waiting for the authorities to give us the green light.”

Meanwhile, City Football Group have unveiled plans to build a new academy training complex in Uruguay.

The City Football Academy in Montevideo — which will be the base for Montevideo City Torque’s first team, six youth development squads and the headquarters of the club’s staff — will become the group’s fourth major training facility after similar projects in Manchester, Melbourne, Australia and New York.

“Despite the moment of global uncertainty in which we live, we are proud to reaffirm our investment and long-term commitment to Uruguay through the construction of a City Football Academy,” said Ferran Soriano, CEO of City Football Group.
