The father of FC Salzburg forward Erling Haaland has said his son is keen to one day play in the Premier League.

Haaland is the Champions League top goal scorer with seven goals this campaign, despite being in a group alongside Liverpool and Napoli, and also has 15 in just 12 matches in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Manchester United will make an enquiry over the 19-year-old’s availability in January, having initially targeted a summer move. However, using fellow Norway international Martin Odegaard as an example, Haaland’s father Alf-Inge has said an intermediate step could be the better move next summer.

“One day, Erling wants to play in the Premier League,” Alf-Inge Haaland told Sport Bild. “I don’t know when the timing will be ideal.

“We are ahead of our own career schedule, but it is a very tough league.”

Sources have told ESPN FC that Barcelona would be interested in signing Haaland, but are put off by the €100 million price tag which has been reported.

And, while Bild claim a €30m release clause will kick in in 2020, Haaland’s father has urged Salzburg not to price his son out of a big move.

“Red Bull [Salzburg] have shown in the past that they are a down-to-earth club,” he added.

“If they want to sign players in the future, they can’t put any idiotic price tags on them. Nobody would want to join the club then.”
