College basketball coaching changes: A list of all 55 coaching swaps that have happened in 2019

St. John’s was responsible for the last big hiring — barring something major changing in the coming weeks or months — of the 2019 college basketball coaching carousel.

The Red Storm went with former UAB/Missouri/Arkansas coach Mike Anderson. Anderson’s career record is 369-200 over 17 years. He’s made the NCAA Tournament nine times.

St. John’s has made the NCAAs three times since 2002.

It could wind up being an outside-the-box hire that works beyond anyone’s expectation — but it is a bizarre choice, make no mistake

“My family and I are extremely excited to join the St. John’s University community,” Anderson said via statement on Friday. “This basketball program is rooted with such great tradition and it has a history built by legendary coaches, so this is a humbling experience. I look forward to mentoring the young men who will represent St. John’s proudly on the court, in the classroom and in our community.”

Anderson was fired at Arkansas in March after eight seasons and a 169-102 record that included three trips to the NCAA Tournament. But while at Arkansas, Anderson had the second most wins in the SEC in those eight years; only Kentucky won more league games than the Hogs.

It’s an intriguing hire — with some skeptics — but St. John’s will undeniably be a different team, and probably more fun to watch, than what it was in the four years under Chris Mullin.

We’re now up to 55 jobs that have gone changeover at this point. Below, our tracker on all the coaching changes.
